[Product Design] Air Washer

Air that’s perfect to breathe

Writing about design can sometimes teach you a couple of things. For instance, today’s product is something I’ve encountered for the first time. An Air Washer. Air washers (from what I read up) are basically humidifiers, but they work as dehumidifiers too, and they also purify the air you breathe. Usually placed as a 2-in-1 solution,

an Air Washer is perfect for situations where air purity and climate control are paramount.

The Air Washer designed by Dongwook Yoon and Junyoung Hong aims at making a sculpture out of the appliance, given its niche market. Made to fit into the house it belongs in, the product goes for a geometric style, going for a shape that’s a cross between an ellipsoid and a cuboid. The controls on the top are minimal and display-centric. A secondary display on the white body comes alive too, allowing you to know the temperature/humidity level just in case the upper display is out of sight.

I personally love a few of the design choices. The secondary screen shining through the plastic adds quite a wow-element. The overall design does (to me) resemble a laundry hamper, but that’s something I’m willing to overlook, given how clean the product looks otherwise. After all, that’s what a purifier SHOULD embody, right? Cleanliness.

이 제품은 보통 하나에 두가지 기능이 배치되었는데

공기 정화와 온도 조절을 최고의 상태로 유지하는데 적합하며

소형으로 만들어져 틈새 시장을 공략하기 위한 목적입니다.

(1인 가구를 중심으로 소형가전의 성장세가 지속되고 있으며,

필요한 기능만 갖춘 소형 가전제품에 대한 수요가 늘고 있다.)

또한 디자인 요소로는 기하학적 스타일과 타원형과 직육면체가

서로 교차하는 외형으로 되어 있습니다. 상단의 제어장치는 작고 디스플레이의 중심부입니다.

흰 몸체에 있는 보조 디스플레이는 상단의 중심 디스플레이가

보이지 않을 경우에도 항상 켜져 있습니다.

제품의 표면에 보이는 보조화면은 심플한 디자인을 더욱 돋보이게 합니다.

하지만 공기청정기의 제품은 기능적인 역할을 잘 해내야겠죠

이렇게 작은 제품이 어떻게 다른 청정기처럼 공기를 잘 정화시켜 주느냐는 것 또한

중요할것 같습니다. 공기 정화 기능만 확실하다면

.목표한 틈새시장 공략에도 문제없어 보이네요.

이 제품은 동양매직의 디자인팀의 윤동욱씨와 홍준영씨가 디자인한 제품이라고 합니다.

동양매직 디자인 팀 RED DOT 과 IDEA 상을 휩쓴다고 하는데

정말 주목 되는 팀인것 같습니다.
